House Murgatroyd is a small home in Johannesburg that was built in the late 1950’s and had no additional changes done since the original design. The client wanted to completely renovate the home and add an additional double garage, lounge and main bedroom.
The printed plans were all measured in cape foot and we had to convert everything into meters to start drawing.
In addition to adding a new main bedroom, small en-suit bathrooms were added to two of the existing bedrooms. The house and existing garage were connected by adding an entrance hall and lounge while extending the single garage into a double. To create a more modern and spacious look the interior walls between the existing kitchen, dining room and lounge were removed. The existing kitchen was completely renovated and opened up into the new family room. Large windows and sliding doors were introduced letting natural light flow into the previously dark spaces and opening the home up to the exterior patio and pergola.
The domestic quarters were also renovated by connecting the exterior bathroom to the room and adding a kitchenette.
